Young children are naturally curious, and their brains are wired to learn best through hands-on, play-based experiences. At Town & Country Early Learning Center, our proprietary curriculum, “The Building Blocks of Learning,” is designed to provide a structured yet flexible educational experience that fosters curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity.
Why Play-Based Learning?
Research shows that children retain information better when learning is active, engaging, and meaningful. That’s why we focus on purposeful play, which allows children to explore concepts in a fun and natural way.
Examples of Play-Based Learning in Action:
- Dramatic Play Centers – Pretend play helps develop social-emotional skills, language development, and problem-solving abilities. Whether children are playing “restaurant,” “doctor’s office,” or “grocery store,” they are learning essential life skills.
- Sensory Bins – These help children engage their senses while developing fine motor skills. Playing with water beads, kinetic sand, or sorting objects by color and shape encourages early STEM learning.
- Outdoor Learning – Gross motor activities like climbing, running, and exploring nature help build coordination and physical strength while teaching lessons about the world around them.
A Curriculum Based on Research and Best Practices
Our curriculum is informed by over 75 years of early childhood research and developmental theory, incorporating elements from The Creative Curriculum and other evidence-based methodologies. We emphasize:
- Social and Emotional Development – Helping children recognize and regulate emotions, develop empathy, and build friendships.
- Cognitive Growth – Encouraging problem-solving, early math and literacy skills, and logical thinking.
- Creative Expression – Fostering imagination through art, music, and storytelling.
- Physical Development – Strengthening fine and gross motor skills through movement-based activities.
Preparing for Kindergarten and Beyond
While our curriculum is playful and engaging, it also ensures children are ready for the next stage of learning. By the time children graduate from our pre-K program, they have a strong foundation in:
- Letter and number recognition
- Early writing and storytelling skill
- Basic problem-solving and reasoning
- Social skills and independence
