Young Toddler

EXPLORATIONS, WONDER & CONSISTENCY

Young Toddlers are natural explorers! This energetic age group thrives in familiar environments where they have the freedom to learn through play. Consistency, familiarity and dependability are important concepts for one-year olds. Our teachers create an environment that encourages feelings of security and comfort during this formative year.

Children are given the opportunity to explore the world around them at their own pace and to develop a sense of wonder. One-year olds discover their physical sense of self by using their fine and gross motor skills. They are curious and enjoy discovering how things work. Your child will thrive, challenged by puzzles, blocks, chubby crayons, finger painting and role playing in the play kitchen with pretend pots, pans and food. Outside play includes safe climbing on age-appropriate play equipment, sand table play and healthy exercise. Children will begin to learn and appreciate valuable social skills such as sharing, taking turns, compassion, respect and developing trusting relationships.

Here We Explore® is our curriculum specifically developed for one-year olds which gently challenges them during this special year of childhood.

The Here We Explore Young Toddler Curriculum focuses on four specific areas of development:

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
As your one-year old begins to become independent, teachers will encourage the exploration of surroundings and making individual choices for playtime. Your child will begin to understand simple directions and learn to show empathy and kindness to friends.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Your child will find his or her walking feet, and then pick up speed! Teachers will be there to assist in climbing and sliding on the age-appropriate classroom play gyms as well as our indoor Adventure Room. Outside, your energetic one-year old will play with friends in the sun and snow, becoming more confident and coordinated as the year progresses.

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT
How exciting it will be to listen to your child develop new words, begin to formulate sentences and sing, sing, sing! As your young toddler’s sense of self continues to develop, your child will imitate family life in our dramatic play areas and begin the very important task of sorting, matching and organizing small objects using their fine motor skills.

CREATIVE EXPRESSION
Painting with colorful, messy fingers, molding play dough, building with large, soft blocks, playing post office and dancing…all in a day’s work for your child!
